As you've probably heard we're going to be doing away with PRO Memberships on thredUP. This was not a decision we took lightly, but since we're trying to build an awesome experience for thredUP members over the long-tem, we think it's the right decision. Here is the text of the email we sent out to PRO members today:
I hope you're having a great summer and staying cool out there! I'm writing to let you know about an important change to your PRO account. As of August 1st, 2011, we're going to be doing away with PRO status on thredUP.
We've decided to do this for three simple reasons: first, we've decided that charging more for a PRO membership, which provides just a few additional features, doesn't provide the best experience for everyone in the long-term. You shouldn't have to pay for something that really ought to be free. Second, eliminating the complexity around "who gets what when" ensures that every member knows if they see a box, they can pick it and if you list a box it can be picked by anyone right away. Third, we've got awesome improvements coming to our Golden Threds program. The more members that have access to GoldenThreds the more leverage we have with brands. This evolution will allow us to get the attention of higher-end brands and provide you with many more opportunities to win great boxes on thredUP.
We realize that you've paid for months (or years!) of PRO that have not been redeemed and we'll be refunding to you the unused portion of your paid membership at midnight on July 31st. In addition, we'll be giving you two picks to use on thredUP to make sure you can get all the great boxes you need for Fall. We hope you've enjoyed your time as a PRO Member and we appreciate your continued engagement on thredUP. If you have questions, I encourage you to visit our blog - blog.thredup.com - where we'll be posting updated information over the next two weeks as well as answering member questions.
All of that is pretty clear, but thought we'd post it on the blog if anyone has questions they can weigh in here and we can answer them as best we can. I look forward to hearing your feedback. - James
